About the Trip

This itinerary combines historic cities with a more peaceful conclusion in the countryside mountains. The distances allow you to break up the trip at a leisurely pace, with a separate day set aside for Fez and a full day for Chefchaouen.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Each day is listed with its main stop and the itinerary for the trip.

Day One

Fes El Bali and Traditional Crafts

Fez — Fez el-Bali

Set aside the first day for Old Fez: the markets, traditional crafts, historic madrasas, and viewpoints overlooking the old city. A local guide is helpful on your first visit because the alleys are so winding.

Day Two

Meknes and Oulili

Meknes — Meknes ← The archaeological site of Volili

Head to Meknes in the morning, then explore the historic city and visit the Roman site of Volubilis. After the tour, continue on to Chefchaouen to spend the night and prepare for a full day in the Blue City.

Day Three

The Blue City

Chefchaouen — Old Chefchaouen

Spend the entire third day in Chefchaouen. Wander without a packed schedule through the alleys, squares, and the kasbah, and save the end of the day for a vantage point overlooking the city and the mountains.

Day 4

Akchur Before Departure

Chefchaouen — Akchour — The Rif Mountains

Set out early for Akchour. Choose the length of the route based on the time of day, the weather, and your fitness level, then return to Chefchaouen or continue on to your next destination in the evening.
